A perspective that gives further severity to the issue of gun violence in the US is a comparison to other developed nations. According to Everytown for Gun Safety, Americans and 20 times more likely to be killed with a gun than people in other equally developed nations. We also have more guns per 100 people (89) than any other country in the world. It is no surprise that greater numbers of guns are correlated with greater frequencies of gun violence. Gun control laws such as those so debated in the United States have also been found to work--not in large ways--but in significant ways nonetheless to reduce the rates of accidental gun violence and suicide (Source).
