As in many social movements, celebrities are often called upon to give their opinions on the gun control debate. Everytown for gun safety produced this "Demand a Plan" video that shows some of the most popular celebrities encouraging Americans to demand a plan to reduce gun violence. It was released just days after the Sandy Hook school shooting and currently has 7,934,845 views on YouTube.
The use of celebrities in this movement is interesting, as it is a controversial topic. While many celebrities support gun control laws, there are also many who do not. The following pictures are from an article published by RTBA Gun Supporters that produced a list of the "Top 23 Pro-Gun Celebrities." The full article can be found here.
“I absolutely don’t believe you can put sanctions or shackles on what is made. Nor do I want to pretend the world is different than what we witnessed that night… America is a country founded on guns. It’s in our DNA. It’s very strange but I feel better having a gun. I really do. I don’t feel safe, I don’t feel the house is completely safe, if I don’t have one hidden somewhere. That’s my thinking, right or wrong.”
Typically, Hollywood tends to lean liberal and have a fairly unanimous voice when it comes to hot-button social issues. But this debate has A-List supporters on both sides.
